Becoming An Officer

An Important Question
What do we require from an Officer? This question has been asked by members a few times now,and is something that we asked ourselves, the answer being one to which a lot of thought has been given. It seemed a good idea to clarify what has been discussed and post some info on how Officers are chosen and why, what is expected of them and what the role entails. Officers are the backbone of the guild and we are blessed to have a fantastic team!

Few Are Chosen
In The Ascended Angels Guild the role of Officer is not one given lightly and hence has true value. We decided early on that Guild Officers would be restricted in numbers. Each officer has a specific role to perform in addition to the general duties the officers perform in order to ensure the smooth running the guild. The Officer Team holds regular meetings to address guild issues.

The Process
Each new round of officers are chosen as numbers increase. The Guild Leader draw up a list a list of possible candidates for the role and will often  discuss with the other Officers the personality, areas of excellence and ability, skill, experience, availability (time spent on-line), expressed interest and so on of the candidates. From this list an order of preference is decided. At this point candidates are approached and asked if they would be interested in becoming an Officer for the guild and given information on what would be required of them. Those members that are pleased to accept our offer are promoted. Then Officers and Guild Leader together as a group discuss general and shared responsibilities and allocate more specific responsibilities according to personality, ability and experience.

Qualities We Look For
Everyone at Ascending Angels is appreciated for what they bring to the guild as individuals. Sometimes however a star will shine brighter than its neighbours! As a general rule of thumb those players that show real passion for the game and are willing to share their time, knowledge, friendship and expertise with their Guildies to help them to achieve their goals, whatever they might be, really do shine out!

The term “Family Guild” gets used a lot. Overused in fact. Those players that treat their fellow guildies as though they were family, with respect and honour, friendship and laughter, care, commitment and sacrifice are representing the true essence of that phrase. If as a player you aspire to and demonstrate those qualities, it is highly likely that you will be asked to become an Officer for the Guild at some point. (If you also happen to be a skilled strategist, trade skiller, organiser, net worker, possess a wealth of leadership skills, game experience or game knowledge…..well it doesn’t hurt! )

Great Expectations
Officers have a variety of duties, some general others individual. However some of the responsibilities include:
  • Promote the interests of the Guild and its Members and be positive representatives of the Guild and its ethos.

  • Dedicate a proportion of playing time to helping other Guildies.

  • Recruit new members and to keep accurate and current Guild Membership information.

  • Add to and manage the Guild Bank

  • Add to and manage Guild Tribute

  • Take an active role in holding events.

  • Keep Guild Membership informed of when they are available and when they are AFK and informing Leaders of planned absences from the game.

  • Read, receive & respond to messages from Members. Keep Leadership and fellow Officers informed.

  • On the rare occasions where it may be required, taking a role in moderating guild chat / team speak or enabling mediation between Members and carrying out disciplinary procedures.

The role of Ascending Angels Guild Officer is an important and sometimes demanding one, but ultimately we would hope….a rewarding one. There may be times when an Officer for whatever reason may be unable to continue with the position and what it entails. In these situations that person would be demoted and another Officer chosen for the position. There is no stigma in such a demotion as we realise the role is not for everyone at all times in their life!

If you would like to become an officer get involved. Do what you can to help your fellow guildies and let the Guild Leader or other Officers know of your intention. We try to allocate roles that suit people's personality, skills, experience and level of availability.
